Let’s be honest. 2020 has been a crap year. We don’t need to go into specifics because we all know but that is about to change. It’s finally GAME WEEK. Florida State will kick off the Mike Norvell Era this Saturday inside beautiful but a different looking Doak Campbell Stadium. Limited capacity and social distancing will certainly show but I still expect plenty of energy from Nole Nation as we anticipate and have optimism for the 2020 FSU Football team. (And they are selling beer inside).
I’m going to do a quick breakdown of our schedule and how I think we’ll finish the 2020 season (hoping we get to play all of the games of course)
Game 1: Georgia Tech (9/12/2020)
I’m excited and also a bit skeptical for the opening game. FSU has started 0-1 the past three seasons. Granted, we did open up with Alabama, Virginia Tech and Boise State. Georgia Tech is predicted to finish last in the ACC. It wouldn’t be good for us to start 0-1 for a fourth straight year. FSU wins 24-17 in a closer game than I would like.
Game 2: @ Miami (9/26/2020)
FSU gets an early bye week then travels to Coral Gables to face Miami. The Noles are currently on a three game losing streak against the U and the last win came back in 2016 which we remember as “The Block at the Rock.” I think FSU finally ends this skid against the Canes but hopefully it doesn’t come down to another blocked extra point. FSU wins 28-17.
Game 3: Jacksonville State (10/3/2020)
FSU will host Jacksonville State due to a schedule change with Samford. I don’t know much about Jacksonville State. I do know that we aren’t losing this game. If this is a loss on the schedule, we have major problems. FSU wins 38-7.
Game 4: @ Notre Dame (10/10/2020)
FSU will be in prime time when they travel up to South Bend to face the Irish. We can forget what happened when we went up there in 2018 because that was ugly. I do think this will be the toughest game to date and while I hope we are more competitive, I don’t see us leaving with a win. Notre Dame wins 31-21.
Game 5: North Carolina (10/17/2020)
FSU will return home to face UNC for the first time since 2016. I will never forget that game for two reasons. The first being that is where those three beautiful words “cup to cup” were first spoken at a tailgate. The second being we lost the game on a last second, heartbreaking field goal. I do have a gut feeling that this could be an FSU game they shouldn’t lose but they will. UNC wins 20-17. I also can't think of UNC without the infamous Greg Jones hit:
Game 6: @ Louisville (10/24/2020)
Fun Fact: FSU went 2-0 against Louisville during the short-lived Taggart era. I have plenty of optimism that we continue this trend and pick up our third straight win against Louisville. Question is…who will be our QB at this point in the season? FSU wins 35-20
Game 7: Pittsburgh (11/7/2020)
Noles get another bye week before facing Pittsburgh. The teams last met in 2013 during FSU’s championship season and it wasn’t even close. Noles will head into this game and get the win during a low scoring affair and match 2018’s win total. FSU wins 14-10.
Game 8: @ N.C. State (11/14/2020)
This was almost picked to be a loss since I hate playing up in Raleigh. Since 2012 when the Noles blew a 16-0 halftime lead and I’m still not over it. I do predict our defense to step up with Marvin getting at least two scares and “Scary Terry” will get two touchdown catches. FSU wins 38-17
Game 9: Clemson (11/21/2020)
Last time I watched FSU play Clemson at Doak it was on my birthday. It was an ugly 59-10 loss which is easily one of the worst FSU games I’ve ever been to. I do think we will be more competitive this year but I still believe Clemson is one of the best teams in the country and this isn’t a game we can win. It is 2020 though so you never know. Clemson wins 35-21.
Game 10: Virginia (11/28/2020)
We are going to beat Virginia. We should have beaten them last year and it still pisses me off we didn’t. We controlled the majority of that game and blew it in the 4th quarter. Let’s not get outscored 21-7 in the 4th quarter again. FSU wins 28-20.
Game 11: @ Duke (12/5/2020)
It feels very weird to be ending the regular season against any team that isn’t Florida. That’s 2020 for you. The Noles end the regular season against Duke. They last met during the 2017 season where the Noles squeaked out a 17-10 win. I think you see history repeat itself. FSU wins 17-10.
That gives FSU finishing the regular season at 8-3. I obviously hope we go undefeated but I’m giving my honest opinions. I hope this team is much improved from the disaster that has been the past two years (three if you count 2017 since Jimbo had checked out). Norvell has already shown through practice a better sense of structure and organization, things we were lacking greatly. Let’s just hope we get a chance to play all of the games and watch FSU climb back to the top of the college football elites.
How did you think FSU will finish this year?
Cheers and as always, GO NOLES!!
