August 2023 Movie Preview: Turtles, Sharks and Dogs!

We are nearing the end of summer and after Barbenheimer has dominated the box office, it is time for the animals to take charge. We have turtles, sharks, dogs and even a new racing movie coming out this month. Here are the movies you should check out this month.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Who doesn't love the Ninja Turtles?? I have been a fan since I was a kid. This is the second animated TMNT movie and the first movie in the TMNT franchise since 2016. Early reviews are very positive for this movie and they already have a sequel planned and a spinoff series. Get some pizza and wear your favorite turtles colors. Cowabunga! (Release Date: August 2nd)

Meg 2: The Trench

I was debating putting this on my list but I couldn't resist. The Meg wasn't great but it was an entertaining-ish movie that was a box office success making over $500 million. When you think action thriller movies Jason Statham is one of the names that comes to mind. I can't say I'll go to the theaters for this one but I'm not against watching it when it is on streaming. Round 2 of Jason Statham vs the Megalodon! (Release Date: August 4th)

Strays

A R-rated comedy about talking dogs? Sign me up. Seeing Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx in the cast was all I need to see. I remember first seeing the red band trailer thinking this is going to be a funny movie. Dog people will like it even though the dogs are strays, it is all about them getting revenge on their owner and I bet we are even going to have a happy ending. (Release Date: August 18th)

Blue Beetle

Let's be honest. The DCEU is a complete mess. The Flash was a total flop and since James Gunn is taking over and starting fresh, no clue how this ties in to the "universe." I honestly know nothing about this superhero but this looks like a fun movie. Marvel has been trending down lately but DC would absolutely kill to have been at peak MCU. This looks like it could be a pleasant surprise and I'll pick it as my sleeper pick for this month that it is better than expected. (Release Date: August 18th).

Gran Turismo

When I heard this was going to be a movie, it immediately took me back to playing this game on the original Playstation. Solid cast and a movie about racing has me intrigued. I like that it is also based on a true story and actually looks like it will focus on racing and not go off the rails like another film franchise that I do currently like to watch....(Release Date: August 25th)

Animals are heavy on the box office this month and another superhero movie and a movie actually about racing. Which movies are you most looking forward to seeing? Did I miss any? Let me know in the comments. Cheers and Happy Viewing!
