I’ve finally joined the Wickverse! ‘John Wick 3’

"John Wick has more kills through 3 films than Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers have combined over 23 films

I know I’m late to this party because as of a few days ago, I had only seen the first John Wick. I thought it was good but honestly didn’t think much of it after that. I had meant to see the second one but just never got around to it. When I saw that John Wick 3 was the film that knocked Avengers: Endgame (which is my current favorite movie of the year) from the top of the box office, I knew that John Wick had a solid following and was worth checking out.

I quickly caught up on John Wick: Chapter 2 and then immediately went to see John Wick 3. I will admit it is cool to watch previous installments and immediately go see the next installment. It really gets me invested in the series. I’ve done that in the past, notably with The Avengers and Star Wars. John Wick 3 picks up moments after the second one. Mr. Wick is on the run with yet another million dollar bounty on his head. He has been declared “excommunicado.” and is racing through the pouring rain of Manhattan in his black suit with his faithful dog.

I don’t want to spoil too much of the movie because I want you all to enjoy it. I will say my favorite scene from John Wick 2 involved John disposing of some guys with a pencil (I thought the coolest pencil trick came from The Dark Knight). I will say one of the best kills that takes place during this movie comes early on in the library. That’s all I’m going to say about it. John basically meets with someone from his past and is trying to get a ticket of safe passage to Casablanca to try meet with The Elder, a member of The High Table so that the bounty on his head can be waived.

He also meets up with Sofia (Halle Berry), an old friend from his past and they casually end up killing at least 100 people in one badass sequence. I will also say that I want to have two attack dogs by my side like Sofia does. I’ve learned through this franchise that you really shouldn’t mess anyone’s dogs. Someone makes that mistake and thus the killing beings. John takes a trip through the desert and ends up making his grand return to Manhattan to confront his enemies. I won’t spoil the ending but I will say this….you will see plenty of broken glass. That’s it. I’ve already said too much. I can also say that you should expect to see a John Wick 4.

This isn’t too much of a spoiler considering they have already announced a fourth installment. Keanu Reeves himself said he would be down to continue making these films as long as they are good and the fans want them. I respect that Mr. Reeves. We don’t want this franchise to last too long like Saw or Pirates of the Caribbean. I did read an interesting article that said John Wick has more kills through 3 films than Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers have combined over 23 films. That is fucking crazy to me. John Wick out here competing with some of the horror film legends.

John Wick: Chapter 3 has already become the highest grossing film of the franchise. I’m looking forward to the continued adventures of your favorite black suit wearing hitman with his four-legged companion by his side as he slays his way to his freedom.
